'More binge-drinking teenage girls now end up in hospital than boys.'

By JENNY HOPE

Daily Mail 23rd October 2010
The scourge of the 'ladette' has spread to girls as young as ten, shocking figures reveal today.
They show that females make up the majority of the soaring numbers of drunken youngsters needing hospital treatment.
The levels have risen by a third in just five years, said the charity Alcohol Concern.
Its report said nearly a third more girls than boys have been admitted to hospital from A&E, with even young females drinking at higher levels like 'ladettes'.

This report just puts into context the extent of the binge drinking problem today.

A typical scene after a night out ...is this what it should be all about?!

Definition of 'binge-drinking':

Consumption of five or more alcoholic drinks in a row on a single occasion.

This definition definitely makes you consider the amount of alcohol you consume on a personal level .....a thought provoker.

I really like this advert. It poses a question to people, making the viewer think and consider their actions.

Watershed call on TV alcohol ads

Campaigners have called for a 9pm watershed on alcohol advertising amid claims that millions of children watched the ads during live World Cup games.

Alcohol Concern said children as young as four watched alcohol ads from brands such as Stella Artois, Magners, Fosters, Carling and WKD during the World Cup.

The charity is also calling for a ban on alcohol ads in cinemas other than during 18-rated films and a ban on alcohol sponsorship of sports and music events.

I think there should be watershed on TV alcohol ads, given the stats. It would make sense and aid the reduction of this binge drinking phenomenon.

Know your limits 'Beer Belly'

Agency: VCCP

Client: NHS
The NHS has launched a new £6 million campaign to highlight the dangers of alcohol abuse.
The headline reads, "Did you know that men who regularly exceed their recommended daily alcohol limit are more likely to get out of shape?"

I really like this ad for the NHS ...the personification of alcohol enables the advert to relate to the viewer on a more personal level.

Drinkaware 'Beer Goggles' advert: MPs propose that 20% of alcohol advertising be dedicated to health messages

Haa. This made me laugh! Guaranteed the majority of drinkers out there can relate to this.

These two ads are advertising alcohol in a comical way. They use humour to relate to the viewer; very effective.

This could be a real shocker to people; especially University students!
